Course description

This one-day training course by carbon market professionals will provide a detailed introduction to the California carbon market from an economic, regulatory and financial perspective. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the mechanics of cap-and-trade and of the regulations governing the California program, as well as the fundamental price drivers and market dynamics.  

The course includes a mix of lectures and hands-on case studies to foster learning and interactions between participants. It also feature two expert guest speakers who will discuss their experience setting up carbon contracts and developing state-of-the-art compliance and trading strategies.

This course is geared towards energy and industrial companies with exposure to carbon markets in California, as well as any other professional who needs a solid understanding of California’s cap-and-trade program.

Emilie Mazzacurati, Four Twenty Seven

Emilie Mazzacurati is the Managing Director of Four Twenty Seven, a climate research and advisory firm. Ms. Mazzacurati has published extensively on California climate policy and carbon markets, federal climate legislation, and the interaction of carbon with other commodity markets. Previously, she was Head of Global Carbon Analysis at Thomson Reuters Point Carbon, where she directed Point Carbon’s research department for carbon in North American and global markets. Ms. Mazzacurati teaches on carbon markets and climate risks at Johns Hopkins University and has trained hundreds of professionals on carbon trading over the years.  www.427mt.com

Jason Patrick is Managing Director at Real Options International, where he advises clients in the energy and environmental markets. He founded and led the U.S. environmental markets desk at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, where he was responsible for the origination, structuring and marketing of carbon, renewables and bundled power products across the Americas. He structured innovative physical and financial bundled power and environmental commodity transactions, including commodity finance, options, spreads and indexed trades. Patrick also led strategy, analytics and portfolio risk management for these markets and products.
